Used Treadmills for Sale - Will you Really Get your Money's Worth?
With the ever so rapid growth of treadmills comes the growing demand of used treadmills. If you are on a tight budget, are used treadmills for sale a good investment? They might be, but we’ll get straight to the point: be aware of what you are purchasing, especially used equipment!

Don’t get us wrong, there are many treadmills that have been used and that are still in great shape. Depending from where and who you purchase the treadmill, you may or may not be totally happy with your buy. In any case, there are several factors to consider…

Guidelines to buying a second hand treadmill

    • Do you see any signs of heavy wear and tear?

    • Look closely at the belt, especially underneath it. Does it look worn out? Rate it on a scale of 1 to 10. You may need to get it replaced.

    • Get on the treadmill and test it out. Keep your ears and eyes wide open for any signals of malfunctioning. Listen to the noises it generates. Is it louder than it should be? Is it making weird noises? Does it feel like the motor is struggling to turn the belt? If you’re not sure. Get off the treadmill and compare the flow of the belt to when you were on the treadmill. If there isn’t much difference, then that could be a good sign.

    • If you are directly purchasing the treadmill directly from the owner, ask how many hours a week they used the treadmill. Higher end quality treadmills tend to be able to take more abuse than a lower end treadmill.

    • Look at our list of treadmill brands to get a better idea of how sturdy the treadmill you wish to purchase can be. From our list you can locate the model and read its reviews. You will be able to pin point its pros and cons.

    • Was the treadmill properly maintained?

    • Make sure you are able to purchase new parts. Check to see if the manufacturer is still in business.

Remember, preparation is the key to making an intelligent decision.

As you can see, it can be intimidating to purchase a used treadmill. Sometimes it is hard to tell how badly the treadmill has been used and abused. They might be inexpensive but in the end, repairs can add up. Keep in mind, if anything happens to the treadmill, there is no warranty to cover your expenses, but…

There is an alternative to buying a used treadmill. The alternative is a remanufactured or refurbished treadmill.

They are used treadmills that have been sent back to the manufacturer to get fixed up. These treadmills go through a cosmetic change. New parts are installed such as a new belt, a new motor, etc. Basically, the treadmill is revitalized. It is then resold, with a warranty, at half the price of its retail value.

We definitely recommend a refurbished treadmill over a used treadmill. It will save you the hassle of repairs and keep you covered for a limited amount of time.
