This page will review two Athlon treadmill models. They range from $1,000 to $1,300. Athlon is a new brand on the market and we would first like to discuss its …
Company Background
Athlon was founded in 1997. It is one of the youngest fitness equipment manufacturers in the market. Their mission statement is “to provide products and services that encourage total fitness (physical, emotional, mental and spiritual) in an enjoyable and safe manner."
Athlon does not have a long line of models behind them. It has 2 treadmills, 2 exercise bikes, and one elliptical trainer. They are trying to mark their territory in the American market and its models are offered in a selection of stores across the country.
Strong Point
Athlon treadmills are simple in design. They have a basic console and basic features. For those who seek a simple treadmill, Athlon is your brand.
This may not be a strong point, however it is worth noting. Athlon treadmills are not the best in quality. However, they are rated above Icon Fitness. Icon Fitness offers a large number of brands and it is somewhat comforting to know that Athlon outperforms Icon in terms of quality.
Weak Point
Unfortunately, Athlon treadmill does not offer a great value for money. For a $1,000 treadmill, you would at least expect a motor of 2.0 CHP (the minimum power required).
Also the belt is short in length and width, leaving you no other option but to walk (light jog at most). Running on undersized belts is not recommended since it can alter you running bio mechanics and increase the chances of falling of the treadmill.
Expert Reviews
TreadmillDoctor.com says “We don’t expect to see Athlon around for much longer than 2005, but they could surprise us.”
Epinions rated a discontinued Athlon treadmill 3.5 stars out of 5.
Conclusion
Athlon is trying to enter a saturated and competitive market. It is too early to determine the outcome of this new born company. If only its models offered better overall value, then its future would look more optimistic. You don’t want to buy a treadmill from a manufacturer that goes out of business shortly after.
For this reason, we would not recommend Athlon treadmills, other brands in the market offer better machines

Athlon Simplicity Treadmill
The Simplicity is the base model offereds by Athlon. This treadmill should be retailed at $1,000. You can get much more value for money in other low end brands. The Ironman 220t is a better $1,000 machine.
The Simplicity Athlon treadmill offers an 18 x 54 inch belt, 1.75 CHP motor and 3 built in programs.
This machine is quite light and stability may be a concern. All in all, it is not a recommended machine.

The Simplicity LX offers the same specs in terms of performance compared to the base model. The motor and belt are the same as the Simplicity. The LX is also a light machine and stability may be an issue.
The LX is foldable, has 6 built in programs and includes grip pulse sensors.
The Athlon Simplicity LX is only recommended for walkers due to its weaker motor and smaller sized belt. For this price, look at Horizon for better quality and value for money.
