There are four New Balance treadmill models and they have all been individually reviewed. They are priced between $999 to $1,899 and range in the low to mid end price range. Before we get into the reviews let’s take a look at New Balance’s … Company Background New Balance is a well known leader in high performance footwear and apparel. They have only recently entered the fitness equipment industry and in 2003 have partnered up with Fitness Quest to distribute their products. It was a rusty start for New Balance’s treadmills but now that they have a Hebb brother (the founder of Trimline, a decent mid to high end treadmill brand) helping out with the design and an experienced staff, things have picked up. A New Balance treadmill is now much easier to maintain. New Balance is now trying to build its fitness equipment company around the same philosophy they had with their footwear. The Philosophy goes as follows: “products that fit better, perform better…period.” We are anxious to see how things will turn up in the future. Things are definitely looking brighter for New Balance. Strong Point New Balance treadmills are considerably well valued. Even though we do not recommend low end treadmills, compared to other brands in the same price range, New Balance offers a decent overall package at a low price. A New Balance treadmill has some very attractive features that will render your workouts more enjoyable. Their QUICK TOUCH™ Program Keys make it very simple to quickly start a preset program. Their QUICK TOUCH™ Speed and Incline Keys enable you to jump to a desired speed level or incline level without having to hold down a button. For such a low price, New Balance offers you a minimum 10 year motor warranty on all their treadmills. This is a lot better than what most low end brands offer. *Note* Not to confuse you, New Balance’s overall warranty is below average and should be taken into consideration, especially if you are a serious runner who will pound the life out of a treadmill. Warranty is usually a strong indicator of a treadmill’s quality. Weak Point As most of the low end treadmills on the market, a New Balance treadmill does not have great quality parts. If you are looking for an overall decent performing treadmill to run on, we suggest one in the $1500 price range, otherwise be prepared for unexpected problems. Low end treadmills should be strictly for walking and nothing more. Aside from the motor, a New Balance treadmill has a weak overall warranty. One year on parts is usually an indicator of a short life span. Expert Reviews Treadmill Doctor had this to say about New Balance treadmills: “Since they have the marketing muscle of Fitness Quest and the New Balance brand name, we would expect that this brand will gain some traction this year. “ Conclusion New Balance has showed some considerable improvements since their debut. Their two low end models are reasonable for the price but their two mid end models just don’t cut it. There are of course better known brands on the market that offer more reliable treadmills and we would stick with them. We refer to these brands in the individual reviews below. New Balance 1200 Treadmill New Balance 1400 Treadmill - *Best Value Within New Balance* New Balance 1600 Treadmill New Balance 1800 Treadmill New Balance Treadmill Features - Where you will find a description of all features __________________________________________________ New Balance 1200 Treadmill This New Balance treadmill is quite decent. The walking surface is considerably large and the price is at a fair value. It has 8 programs to keep your workouts exciting and a 0 to 12 percent grade incline to simulate uphill walking. Many features have been incorporated into the 1200 including a Lift Assist that facilitates its folding capability and QUICK TOUCH™ Speed and Incline Keys to quickly jump to your desired speed or incline. New Balance has also included a unique EZ CARE™ Maintenance system that answers the need for hassle-free belt adjustment, deck cleaning and lubrication. Overall, the New Balance 1200 has a lot to offer for such a low price. It is important to note that it is a low end machine and should only be used for walking. Anything more will cause you headaches down the road. We would also suggest the New Balance 1400 over this one. They are both fairly similar in price but the 1400 has more horse powers and more programs. *Note* If you are looking for the top of the line treadmill under $1000 we propose the Sole treadmill F63 or the Smooth treadmill 5.25. They are the leading treadmills in their price range. Price - $899 Length - 76 in Width - 34 in Height - 53 in Weight - 230 lbs User Weight Capacity - 275 lbs Belt - 20 x 56 in Deck - Non Reversible Motor - 2.0 HP Continuous Duty Motor Speed - 0.5 to 10 mph Incline - 0 to 12% Folding - Yes Heart Rate - Yes Heart Rate Control - No Wireless Chest Strap - No Programs - 8 Programs: 6 QuickTouch preset program keys, 2 QuickTouch interactive program keys Features - Lift Assist, DURA-SOFT Deck, EZ CARE™ Maintenance, Multi-speed Dual Fan, QUICK TOUCH™ Program Keys, QUICK TOUCH™ Speed and Incline Keys, EZ Care™ Belt Adjustment Display - 8" X 10" Display: Time, Speed, Incline, Distance, Approximate Calories Burned and Pulse Rate Warranty - Lifetime frame, 10 years motor, 1 year parts, 1 year labor [Back to Top] __________________________________________________ New Balance 1400 Treadmill - *BEST VALUE WITHIN NEW BALANCE* The 1400 is definitely New Balance’s best treadmill relative to its price. It’s got a large 20 x 56 inch walking area and a good motor power. As the New Balance 1200, it has a Lift Assist that facilitates its folding capability and QUICK TOUCH™ Speed and Incline Keys to quickly jump to your desired speed or incline. As we stated earlier, we definitely recommend this New Balance treadmill over the New Balance 1200. It has a stronger motor and the display has 2 extra preset program keys. You may be able to find the 1200 at $899 Fogdog.com but the extra $100 for the New Balance 1400 treadmill is well worth the extra power. This treadmill should only be used for walking. Its parts doesn’t have the durability and level of quality that a mid end treadmill would have. If you are looking for a more reliable treadmill with a longer warranty then the Sole F63 treadmill or the Smooth 5.25 treadmill is your match. For a $999 treadmill you won’t find any better. Price - $999 Length - 76 in Width - 34 in Height - 53 in Weight - 230 lbs User Weight Capacity - 300 lbs Belt - 20 x 56 in Deck - Non Reversible Motor - 2.5 HP Continuous Duty Motor Speed - 0.5 to 10 mph Incline - 0 to 12% Folding - Yes Heart Rate - Yes Heart Rate Control - No Wireless Chest Strap - No Programs - 10 Programs: 8 QuickTouch preset program keys, 2 QuickTouch interactive program keys Features - Lift Assist, DURA-SOFT Deck, EZ CARE™ Maintenance, Multi-speed Dual Fan, QUICK TOUCH™ Program Keys, QUICK TOUCH™ Speed and Incline, EZ Care™ Belt Adjustment Display - 8" X 10" Display: Time, Speed, Incline, Distance, Approximate Calories Burned and Pulse Rate Warranty - Lifetime frame, 15 years motor, 1 year parts, 1 year labor [Back to Top] __________________________________________________ New Balance 1600 Treadmill This New Balance treadmill has a 1 inch wider deck than the New Balance 1400 and a bigger display. The warranty has improved to a lifetime on motor and 2 years on parts. Taking all those changes into consideration, we still wouldn’t recommend this model. $1,699 is a huge sum of money. For that price, we would want to see a longer warranty on parts and we would expect to see better quality parts. There are some much better brands on the market that offer more reliable performing treadmills. Take a look at a Sole treadmill or a Pacemaster treadmill. They will both keep you smiling. Price - $1,699 Length - 75 in Width - 35 in Height - 54 in Weight - 254 lbs User Weight Capacity - 325 lbs Belt - 20 x 57 in Deck - Non Reversible Motor - 2.5 HP Continuous Duty Motor Speed - 0.5 to 11 mph Incline - 0 to 12% Folding - Yes Heart Rate - Yes Heart Rate Control - No Wireless Chest Strap - No Programs - 18 Programs: 15 QuickTouch preset program keys, 3 QuickTouch interactive program keys Features - Lift Assist, DURA-SOFT Deck, EZ CARE™ Maintenance, Multi-speed Dual Fan, QUICK TOUCH™ Program Keys, QUICK TOUCH™ Speed and Incline, EZ Care™ Belt Adjustment Display - 12" X 10" Display: Time, Speed, Incline, Distance, Approximate Calories Burned and Pulse Rate Warranty - Lifetime frame, Lifetime motor, 2 year parts, 1 year labor [Back to Top] __________________________________________________ New Balance 1800 Treadmill A Strong 3.0 Hp motor, a large running surface and a wireless heart rate monitor with heart rate control programs are all attractive features that appear good on the outside but what about its quality, reliability and warranty? These are very important factors that must also be taken into consideration. Even though this New Balance treadmill is a new model, it is incomparable to other similar priced brands. Both its warranty and quality are weak. It has great features and many programs but performance is priority. We recommend a Sole treadmill, Smooth treadmill or Pacemaster treadmill over this one. Price - $1,899 Length - 75 in Width - 35 in Height - 54 in Weight - 254 lbs User Weight Capacity - 325 lbs Belt - 20 x 57 in Deck - Non Reversible Motor - 3.0 HP Continuous Duty Motor Speed - 0.5 to 11 mph Incline - 0 to 12% Folding - Yes Heart Rate - Yes Heart Rate Control - Yes Wireless Chest Strap - Yes Programs - 20 Programs: 15 QuickTouch preset program keys, 3 QuickTouch interactive program keys, 2 Heart Rate Control program Features - Lift Assist, DURA-SOFT Deck, EZ CARE™ Maintenance, Multi-speed Dual Fan, QUICK TOUCH™ Program Keys, QUICK TOUCH™ Speed and Incline, EZ Care™ Belt Adjustment Display - 12" X 10" Display: Time, Speed, Incline, Distance, Approximate Calories Burned and Pulse Rate Warranty - Lifetime frame, Lifetime motor, 2 year parts, 1 year labor [Back to Top] Explanation of all New Balance treadmill features: | Feature | Description | | DURA-SOFT Deck | This feature lessens the impact of walking and running and increases your workout comfort. | EZ Care™ Belt Adjustment | You can now eliminate belt slippage and the need for extra tools when adjusting the walking belt.
