The name “Woodway” comes from the German name “Waldweg” which signifies “way of the woods.” It wasn’t until 1990 when Woodway USA was developed and now operates as the primary manufacturer worldwide. Now there are design manufacturers in the USA, Germany, and Japan.

Although retail stores are starting to expand across the USA, Woodway’s growth is primarily based on commercial sales to training rooms of winning professional and college teams, U.S. military installations and ships, sports teams, gyms, and specialty training facilities. For example, Woodway treadmills were sold to 7 NHL Teams, 23 NBA Teams, 27 MLB Teams and 30 NFL Teams. On top of that, President Bush used a Woodway treadmill, and even Oprah Winfrey and Cal Ripken Jr. reportedly own one, too. It is no surprise that these high performing treadmills are expanding in homes.

Strong Point

Unlike any other treadmill on the market, a Woodway treadmills belt design functions like a tank’s driving mechanism and is made of a high-density rubber. Woodway president Douglas Bayerlein, said that Woodway treadmills average “130,000 miles before needing service,” and that “traditional models average 10,000 to 15,000 miles before needing maintenance.” We don’t know if this is exactly true but we do know that a Woodway treadmill will generally out last any other treadmill on the market.

Woodway treadmills have a horrible fit and finish quality. For such a high price you would expect a high finish quality but that is not the case. Treadmill Doctor says to “expect running paint, exposed screws, and joints that don’t fit together.”

This Woodway treadmill has a patented Slat-Belt Transportation System. Basically, the belt has 47 individual slats to smoothly and silently rotate around the drive system. Also, Woodway says that “the low friction ball bearing transportation system alleviates the forces to all mechanical and electrical parts, resulting in less wear, less maintenance, fewer repairs, lower electric bills, and a longer treadmill life.” Basically, their system is like no other. It is durable and can last you a lifetime.

The Woodway Wide Path treadmill can withstand a weight of 500 lbs to 800 lbs. This goes to show how much of a beating it can take. Its warranty is good and it is a compact treadmill.

Overall, the Wide Path is very good but its short running surface can be a draw back, especially if you are a tall individual. If you want a longer treadmill take a look at the Woodway Mercury S treadmill or the Woodway Desmo S treadmill.

Woodway Mercury S Treadmill

If you want room to run then the Woodway Mercury S treadmill will please you. It has a running length of 68 inches. This is incredible. Only Woodway’s drive system can withstand such a long running length.

At a weight of 465 lbs you can expect great stability but the console will tend to move at high speeds. This is not an unusual thing. The Mercury’s weakness is its low fit and finish quality but this does not stop it from being an extraordinary treadmill.

This Woodway treadmill has a side handrail control of speed/elevation which facilitates a safer transition of speed. As the other Woodway treadmills, the warranty is good. Even though you can find treadmills with a longer warranty, none can compare to Woodway’s belt and drive system.

With a weight of 465 lbs, make sure you know exactly where you want to position the treadmill because you won’t want to move it again.

Overall, the Mercury is a very good buy especially if you are a serious runner that wants a long lasting treadmill. The price may be steep but if you have the budget, it will be worth it in the long run. Depending on your preferences, you may want a wider running surface than 17 inches. If so, take a look at the Woodway Desmo S treadmill. This one has the full package.

This Woodway treadmill is a beast. It weighs 500 lbs and has an enormous running surface of 22 x 68 inches. You will not find a surface larger than that. It can attain a maximum speed of 12.5 miles per hour and can withstand a massive weight of 500 lbs to 800 lbs.

Its unique transportation system has 60 individual slats with a vulcanized rubber surface resulting in less wear, less maintenance, fewer repairs, lower electric bills, and a longer treadmill life. Basically, this is the only treadmill you will ever need. Depending on the treadmills usage, the belt should last 130 -150,000 miles.

This is an overall excellent treadmill. It is silent, reliable, has an excellent stability, a good warranty and a breathtaking drive system. The price is definitely outrageous but you are paying for the best of the best.
